Tourism is one of the biggest industries in the world and it is predicted to grow by 3.4% annually leading up to 2030 (UNWTO, 2014). In spite of its many strengths, there is still room for growth and development in the programme area’s tourism sector if it is to keep up with tourists’ needs and demands. We intend to develop the western Baltic Sea into the best resort in northern Europe for modern, active coastal holidays. Thematic Objective 6 finances environment and resource efficiency — water and waste management, biodiversity protection, contaminated-site remediation, air quality, and the circular economy.
