Demographic trends in Latvia indicate an ageing population and a shrinking population, especially in working age, resulting in a shrinking share of the working-age population. Since 2000, the total population of Latvia has decreased by more than a fifth. At the beginning of 2024, there were 1 871 882 independent residents in Latvia, 48% of whom are aged 45 and over.
