DEMI Directed Evolution of Metastable Electrocatalyst Interfaces for Energy Conversion

Coordinator: KOBENHAVNS UNIVERSITET (DK)

It is our aim to transform the research field of electrocatalysis from the established “initial (as-synthesized) state approach” to a data-centric understanding of the metastable active interface of electrocatalysts, constantly evolving under reaction conditions. We want to overcome the limitations of elemental or binary alloy catalysts by exploring and exploiting high entropy materials (HEM) as a discovery platform for sustainable materials, with the aim to identify in the extremely large, multidimensional search space new electrocatalysts that are both stable and active. To understand and co…

About Horizon Europe (2021–2027)

Horizon Europe is the EU's current research and innovation programme, covering 2021 to 2027 with a budget of roughly €95.5 billion. Its three pillars are Excellent Science (frontier research and mobility), Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness (mission-driven collaborative projects in health, climate, digital, security and food) and Innovative Europe (the EIC and EIT). It also funds five EU Missions targeting cancer, climate adaptation, smart cities, oceans and soils.

EU contribution: €10.0M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 6 years from 2024-01-01 to 2029-12-31.
