ELITHE Electrification of ceramic industries high temperature heating equipment

Coordinator: FUNDACION CIRCE CENTRO DE INVESTIGACION DE RECURSOS Y CONSUMOS ENERGETICOS (ES)

eLITHE aims to support decarbonisation of the ceramic industry through the demonstration of sustainable and cost-effective pathways to electrify high temperature thermal processes (i.e. melting, calcination and firing). This is crucial for the EU to achieve its 2050 target of climate neutrality as energy-intensive industries (EIIs) are responsible for a large portion of greenhouse gas emissions. eLITHE will demonstrate three different electric furnaces (a frit smelter based electrodes and induction, a microwave-powered alumina calciner and a hybrid brick firing tunnel kiln for combined use of…

About Horizon Europe (2021–2027)

Horizon Europe is the EU's current research and innovation programme, covering 2021 to 2027 with a budget of roughly €95.5 billion. Its three pillars are Excellent Science (frontier research and mobility), Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness (mission-driven collaborative projects in health, climate, digital, security and food) and Innovative Europe (the EIC and EIT). It also funds five EU Missions targeting cancer, climate adaptation, smart cities, oceans and soils.

Co-funding: the European Union contributes €11.2M toward a total project budget of €13.5M — a funding rate of 83%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 4 years from 2024-01-01 to 2027-12-31.
