2G BIOPIC Second Generation BIoethanol sustainable production based on Organosolv Process at atmospherIc Conditions

Coordinator: COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DE LA MATIERE VEGETAL CIM V (FR)

The purpose of the 2G BIOPIC project is to demonstrate the performance, the reliability and the sustainability, of the whole value chain of production of bioethanol from agricultural residues and wood. 2G BIOPIC aims to design, construct and optimize a second generation (2G) demonstration plant with a capacity of 1 T of biomass/h. This 2G plant is based on the scale-up and optimization of bioethanol production from an already validated pilot plan scale (50Kg/h) achieved in a previous project (FP7 BIOCORE). The innovative patented concept proposed by 2G BIOPIC consists of cleanly deconstruct l…

About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)

Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.

Co-funding: the European Union contributes €20.0M toward a total project budget of €35.2M — a funding rate of 57%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 3 years from 2015-05-01 to 2018-04-30.
