Hardening the surface of stainless steel parts and at the same time retaining its corrosion resistance presents a major technical challenge to surface engineering, particularly for the stainless steel pumping equipment and stainless steel parts used in industry. Technology solutions and procedures that are capable to provide stainless steel surfaces with high corrosion stability, high wear resistance and good tribological properties are intensively sought. About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)
Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.
