Exascale volumes of diverse data from distributed sources are continuously produced. Healthcare data stand out in the size produced (production 2020 >2000 exabytes), heterogeneity (many media, acquisition methods), included knowledge (e.g. diagnostic reports) and commercial value. The supervised nature of deep learning models requires large labeled, annotated data, which precludes models to extract knowledge and value. About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)
Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.
