KUBBI Cost- and Climate-Efficient Milk Cooling Using Slurry Ice and Natural CO2
Coordinator: SPF LOGPH (FO)
KUBBI COOLING is a milk cooling technology for dairy farmers based on slurry ice as the active cooling ingredient andnatural CO2 as refrigerant. The main advantages for the end users (dairy farmers) are superior milk quality, higher raw milkprices and significantly lower energy costs for milk cooling and storage. KUBBI COOLING enables unprecedented rapidcooling of the fresh milk (30-60 sec. vs. 90-120 min.), being 120-180-fold faster than conventional milk cooling systems; thisin turn enables much better preservation of valuable proteins in the fresh milk and inhibits bacterial spoilage. About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)
Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.
Co-funding: the European Union contributes €50k toward a total project budget of €71k — a funding rate of 70%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 0.5 years from 2019-03-01 to 2019-08-31.
