The Maltese maritime industry is seeing rapid development with a view to adhere to all international standards and regulations whilst at the same time adopt the latest novel and state-of-the-art engineering techniques to adequately support this vision. However, the maritime industry in Malta still lacks the appropriate capability to support this development and is seeking knowledge exchange to build up its capability in the long term. About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)
Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.
