Dementia is a devastating neurodegenerative disease that causes tremendous suffering for patients and their families. The disease’s relentless progression leads to a loss of all mental abilities, making patients completely dependent on constant care and supervision. Even though the disease is incurable, there are treatments available that can postpone the patient`s mental decline for a few years. About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)
Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.
