Polyurethane (PU) is one of the most popular plastic in the world and is everywhere around us, from our car’s seats to the insulating material used in our homes and clothes. Every year more than 23 million tons of PU are produced from two raw materials coming from oil refining: polyols and isocyanates. This is posing relevant concerns to PU manufacturers, especially because their customers are “going green”, avoiding the use of oil-derived product as much as possible. About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)
Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.
Co-funding: the European Union contributes €50k toward a total project budget of €71k — a funding rate of 70%, with the remainder covered by the consortium partners. The project runs over approximately 0.5 years from 2019-11-01 to 2020-04-30.
