Met4Bone Metabolites as immunomodulatory additives for biomaterials

Coordinator: RIGAS TEHNISKA UNIVERSITATE (LV)

The biomaterials are crucial for the surgical remediation of bone defects caused by various diseases e.g. osteoporosis and traumatic fractures. However, there are several risks associated with this treatment; first, the surgical procedure itself carries a potential risk of inflammation and bone infection, second, the bone replacement can fail requiring revision surgery. In fact, the host immune response to implanted materials and devices is the main factor that will determine a long-term functional outcome of the biomaterial mediated treatment. Therefore, the bone biomaterial ability to modul…

About Horizon 2020 (2014–2020)

Horizon 2020 was the EU's flagship research and innovation programme for 2014–2020, with a budget of around €77 billion. It bundled FP7's strands with the EIT and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme, introduced a stronger societal-challenge orientation, and pushed the funding logic toward closer-to-market innovation. New calls closed in 2020 but funded projects continued through 2024.

The project runs over approximately 2 years from 2020-08-01 to 2022-07-31.
