Glucose use in fish Carbohydrate utilization by the working muscle of rainbow trout
Coordinator: CONSEJO NACIONAL DE INVESTIGACIONES CIENTIFICAS Y TECNICAS (CONICET) (AR)
Carbohydrate-rich diets are frequently used in the commercial farming of fish. However, fish do not appear to have an elevated capacity to clear a high load of glucose from their circulation. Special attention has been directed towards the study of the physiological responses to such carbohydrate-rich feeding. Skeletal muscles play a key role in glucose homeostasis in mammals, and exercise has a noticeable effect in lowering plasma glucose. This effect is caused by an up-regulation of glucose transport mediated by GLUT4 in skeletal muscles in response to exercise. However, the exact mediating…
About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)
The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.
EU contribution: €15k awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 1 year from 2012-11-01 to 2013-10-31.
