GRASSLANDS The evolution of the Grassland biome: exploring past events to predict future scenarios

Coordinator: CONSEJO NACIONAL DE INVESTIGACIONES CIENTIFICAS Y TECNICAS (CONICET) (AR)

Knowledge of the evolution of the grassland biome throughout the Earth's environmental history is important for the reconstruction of links between diversification/extinctions events and climate. Biomes are now being impacted by anthropogenic environmental change on an unprecedented scale, and one mean of understanding how component species will react is to study the effects of past environmental changes. Hence, understanding the evolutionary history of grassland ecosystems in the context of past biotic and abiotic changes is relevant to the way we will manage them under future environmental …

About Seventh Framework Programme (2007–2013)

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) ran from 2007 to 2013 and was the EU's main research-funding instrument of that period. It mobilised roughly €50 billion across cooperation projects, ERC frontier grants, Marie Curie fellowships, capacity-building actions and Euratom research. FP7 closed to new calls in 2013 but its projects continued for years after under their original grant agreements.

EU contribution: €15k awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 1 year from 2015-09-01 to 2016-08-31.
