Clear Water from Pharmaceuticals

Active pharmaceutical ingredients are active medicines, e.g. hormones, analgesics and antibiotics, that contaminate the water and marine life if disposed into the Baltic Sea. Following HELCOM’s status report on pharmaceuticals, partners from seven countries work on tools and recommendations for policy makers, authorities and municipalities to map sources and environmental concentrations of these ingredients and propose methods to reduce these harmful emissions. Co-funding: the EU contributes €2.9M toward a total project cost of €3.7M — a co-funding rate of 77%, with the remainder covered by national, regional or private sources.

Kohesio is the European Commission's open-data platform for projects co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, the European Social Fund Plus, the Cohesion Fund and the Just Transition Fund. It draws on lists of beneficiaries published by national managing authorities and harmonises them into a single EU-wide view.
