MORpH Dissecting the role of rapid auxin responses in plant morphogenesis

Coordinator: USTAV EXPERIMENTALNI BOTANIKY AV CR (CZ)

Plant cells, living in their cell walls, are immobile and thus tightly control growth to shape their organs and bodies. Mechanical properties of the cell wall are modulated by pH, which is governed by the activity of plasma membrane proton ATPases. The central regulator of plant growth, phytohormone auxin, regulates gene transcription. My team and I have significantly contributed to recent discoveries of additional auxin signaling pathways that act rapidly, in a non-genomic manner. Surprisingly, all auxin signaling pathways converge on the regulation of ion fluxes and cell wall pH. The centra…

About Horizon Europe (2021–2027)

Horizon Europe is the EU's current research and innovation programme, covering 2021 to 2027 with a budget of roughly €95.5 billion. Its three pillars are Excellent Science (frontier research and mobility), Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness (mission-driven collaborative projects in health, climate, digital, security and food) and Innovative Europe (the EIC and EIT). It also funds five EU Missions targeting cancer, climate adaptation, smart cities, oceans and soils.

EU contribution: €2.0M awarded to the consortium. The project runs over approximately 5 years from 2024-09-01 to 2029-08-31.
